Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova meets with Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament

On May 2, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament Giorgio Mule, who is on a visit to our country.

The meeting discussed the importance of the Inter-Parliamentary Conference on "The Role and Best Practices of Legislation in the Protection of Cultural Heritage" held within the framework of the VI World Intercultural Dialogue Forum. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis noted that such forums play an important role in the preservation of cultural heritage, the strengthening of intercultural dialogue, and the discussion of bilateral and multilateral cooperation issues. She said that Italy is one of the countries with the richest culture in Europe and a friendly country to Azerbaijan.

The meeting expressed satisfaction with the development of relations between the two countries in various directions, noting that today Azerbaijan and Italy are two close friends and strategic partners. Mutual visits and negotiations held at the highest level played an important role in bringing our relations to this level. During the conversation, the important role of parliaments in the development of our relations was emphasized. It was noted that in recent years, close cooperation has been established between the Milli Majlis and both chambers of the Italian Parliament.

During the conversation, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis shared her views on the intensification of the activities of inter-parliamentary friendship groups and the importance of a grand event such as COP29, which will be hosted by Azerbaijan.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova also criticized the double standards and biased position observed in some Western structures towards our country. She informed about France's attempts to disrupt the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and to pursue its interests in the region.

Expressing his gratitude for the hospitality, Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament Giorgio Mule expressed his satisfaction with his participation in the VI World Intercultural Dialogue Forum.

The guest shared his views on the development and achievements of modern Azerbaijan, the achieved successes, the activities of inter-parliamentary friendship groups, and the holding of such an important event as COP29 in our country.

An exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
